About Me
Hey, my name is Janine Susens, but please, call me Nina. I'm a mom, small business owner and student of Regenerative Organic Agriculture. I'm a Chicago native, currently residing in the low desert of Arizona. I grew up in Aurora, CO and have been blessed to live in places such as The Twin Cities (where my son was born) as well as the beautiful PNW (where my daughter was born). This is also where my passion project Harvest Hearth was born. I have gardened and built community in each place that I have resided. The story behind Harvest Hearth is pretty simple, I inherited a nurturing spirit from my ancestors and one way I honor them is by continuing that legacy. It is a legacy of nurturing and feeding our communities, of advocating for those in need and helping to create a world where we foster healthy, thriving communities and live by the laws of reciprocity. The ultimate goal of Harvest Hearth is to address food insecurity, I believe that the answer to this food apartheid that is occurring is for the people to come together to create healthy and sustainable food sources within our own communities.
